Spring Cart Gully is a slice of heaven that we are privileged to call home. A magical place - sitting high above the Murray River on glowing ochre-sandstone cliffs, a magical vista of the region floods the horizon.

Spring Cart Gully is one of the oldest and most historic names on the South Australian map and marks the spot where Captain Charles Sturt once abandoned a dray during one of his live-stock expeditions, taking the naming right for the area.

In 1935 the Riverland and Mallee radio station - 5RM, chose the site to build their first radio station and towers, due to the high point of the clifftop location. In November 1935, the station broadcast for the first time, with its signal matching the quality of Sydney commercial stations. A wavelength of three hundred and fifty-three metres aired the voices and music afar with the new station (5RM) being heard on the West Gate Bridge in Melbourne, Victoria!

In 1955, a fire saw extensive damage to one end of the building which was later rebuilt, along with a second dwelling to keep the radio equipment separate from the main house. The property has undergone several renovations since, and has now been thoughtfully re-birthed into curated, cliffside accommodation for you to experience.

For us, The River Vista is more than a place to stay –it is a place of great history, and a place that encapsulates everything we love so much about our home here in the Riverland. The fresh, country air, the wide open spaces - uninterrupted views, as far as the eye can see. Warm fuzzy skies in the morning, and magical sunsets glowing at night.

The best kind of memories are made here. A stay at Spring Cart Gully, is a stay with purpose.
